Go Bulls

Kristen & Sarah started soccer this past Sunday and it is a co-ed team of kinder & 1st grade. Joe is the coach along with Coach Joyce and the girls are so proud to have their Daddy coach their team. It's super sweet to hear them tell everyone that the coach is their dad.

Joe got there really early to get set up but I took the girls to a birthday party beforehand. We could only stay at the party for about 45 minutes and then of course we barely made it to fields. Luckily, we made it just in time and got changed into the jersey. There are 9 kids on the team and Kristen & Sarah made friends with the girls really fast.

The team had to come up with their own name and the boys were all over that. They voted to be called the Bulls....not girly but we'll take it anyway.

They practice for 30 minutes and the game is immediately following. They were wearing grey when we practiced and switched them to blue for the game. Several of the kids have played before but most of the team has not but it doesn't matter because the point is to just have fun! Score wasn't kept for the first game since it was just practice. The other team was called the NINJA's....and they really were little Ninja's! They had a little boy #7 that has clearly played before. He was awesome. We did score one point! We'll keep practicing!

The picture below is Kristen kicking the ball

This is Sarah below....she switched to a smaller size jersey and became #45.

The picture below is my favorite one of the day. This was the best kick Sarah got!

Sarah made quick friends with the little girl in the pink shorts.

Weekends

This weekend we went to the Paramount Theatre to see the Austin Ballet's "Not Afraid of the Dark" performance. It was excellent and the girls loved it! They really loved going downtown....we need to take them there more often.

Today we stayed home most of the day because it was rainy. We did get out to meet Nana for lunch but other than that we hung out at home. Kristen told me she thinks there should be 100 days for each  weekend. I couldn't agree more!

Last weekend we took them to Main Event. Kristen had been asking to go back and climb the rock walls again so we decided to go. We started out with bowling. It was their first time to bowl and they enjoyed it.

Joe took Sarah to play glow golf and I took Kristen to climb the rock wall. The girl has no fear and is quite good at it. She rang bell, after bell, after bell.....

School Update

The girls have had an incredible first two weeks of kindergarten. They are truly flourishing and it makes my heart happy and so full of joy seeing them so independent and happy. I feel beyond blessed to be in an exceptional school district, with a terrific teacher, and them in a class with some other amazing kids.

I originally had lots of doubts about kindergarten and seriously considered delaying them a year. I still question it because my reasoning was never about kindergarten but more about the middle and high school years and whether or not they would be influenced by the older kids. It wasn't an easy decision and there are definitely pro's and con's either way. At the end of the day, I feel good about this decision. These girls are so smart and insanely independent and I do think that they would have been bored if they waited a year. My goal is to make them love school and fall in love with learning and I have no doubts that will happen this year.  They've already made several friends. Kristen's made friends with McKenna and Avery while Sarah has made friends with Kaitlyn and Ainsley (a different Ainsley than our best buddies). They also have Sophia in the class next door and they tell me everyone in their class has been nice.

They have also rode the bus a couple of times. The first time I followed the bus and then followed behind them as they walked to their class. (they didn't know I went all of the way to their class). I just had to make sure they got there o.k. The bus drops off in the back of the school and we've been going in through the front so I wasn't sure if they would know how to get to their class from the back way. This girl at the bus stop offered to show them and she was so sweet. She did take them all of the way there and my heart took great delight in watching the 5th grader be so sweet to my girls.

5 Year Stats

The girls had their 5 year well check visit right before school started. Luckily, they didn't need any vaccines but they did get their flu shot and had to have their blood drawn to check for anemia. I was by myself and two kids with shots and blood being drawn is nothing short of chaotic. The office staff helped the best they could but it is impossible to hold and console a crying child when it is time to hold down the next one for their turn. Pure craziness!

Great Weekend & Mom's Birthday

Sunday was my Mom's birthday and we had a party for her on Saturday. It turned out great and she said she enjoyed seeing her friends and family.

Me and one of my girls

Today Sarah & I went to get pedicures. She has moved passed just the polish. Now she asks for an actual pedicure....definitely a girl who wants to be pampered.

This afternoon they jumped on the trampoline with the sprinkler spraying them. They loved it.

This weekend was perfect and I wish we had a few more days off.
